From brewery murals to can design, craft beer and art has long shared a close connection. But Ocean Reach brings those two creative pursuits even closer together through their Artist Series; cans of beer that tell a story beyond the liquid inside. For 2024, that artist is Ebba Alling, who grew up in a coastal town in Sweden (no wonder the Phillip Island brewers like her) but now resides in Adelaide. At The Crafty Pint, we’re more about describing beers over art but Ebba’s theme is one of celebrating nature and the energy of a summer’s evening.
As for the beers, Frolic is a hazy IPA that features New Zealand’s Nelson Sauvin and Motueka that combine for a blend of stone fruit, white wine grape, citrus and a flurry of tropical fruit. There’s the softest touch of bitterness but like like a gentle breeze, soon vanishes into a soft and lush base. Jazzed Up meanwhile is a Black IPA that trumpets citrus and earthy pine against dark chocolate and roasted espresso. But while bold in both hop and malt notes, there's a softness at play here too where more gentle floral tones and sweet biscuit slowly work their way out of the maze.
