The team at Cornella continue to pump new beers through the brewery at their regional Victorian location, here covering many bases: experimenting with new ingredients in a new world style, trying their hand once again at traditional brews, and bringing back a past success.
For Bendigo On The Hop 2024, Cornella debuted Roxanne Red IPA, which showcased Luminosa hops. The amber-brown hue comes from the addition of Belgian Dark Candi sugar rather than darker roasted malts, which results in a toffee-like sweetness complemented by subtle hints of raisin. The beer features a crisp, clean malt body with bitterness and no roast.
Meanwhile, Old Town Red Ale continues Cornella’s homage to English pub-style beers – read more about the mini-revival of such beers here. As the third in their Old Town series – taglined "Beers from the pub" – this red ale draws inspiration from traditional Celtic reds. With toffee and caramel sweetness and a gorgeous ruby-brown appearance, it’s the perfect beer for quiet winters by the fire. The 440ml package lends itself to increasing temperature over time, which accentuates the experience. I hope it’s popular enough to warrant a repeat performance, so I can enjoy it by the potbelly stove in my new shed when I get one.
Cornella Brewery have also reintroduced their Festbier for 2024. This year’s version features slight tweaks to the malt bill, making it lighter and crisper with less bitterness and more whirlpool hops. These adjustments aim to enhance its refreshing quality, making it an ideal choice to be enjoyied with a variety of foods or as a standalone beer. Again, it’s the perfect companion to Oktoberfest cellebrations over the coming months.
