It’s notoriously hard to brew a mid-strength beer with decent flavour. So when Common People decided to make a mid-strength seasonal, they went with a California Common, since it's a style that allows for yeast, malt and hops to all bring flavour to the table.
You've got a nice edge of toasty and caramel flavours from the malt. You've got your pithy grapefruit aromas and flavours from the Amarillo hops piled into the whirlpool, with maybe a hint of florals. And you’ve got your fruity esters from the warm fermented lager yeast, which can go a long way in rounding out the flavour profile of a lighter beer.
There’s also a staunch bitterness, like a bouncer who hasn't yet decided whether he's going to let you in or not and you hope he does because you know you'd have no chance of slipping past him.
Yet at the end of it all, it’s a crisp middy. Drink up.
