Street Cred Red. Just rolls off the tongue, doesn’t it?
The Blackflag crew welcomed Street Cred to the world in true Blackflag fashion: with a launch party pumping with tunes and skate art and their characteristic graffiti label design.
It’s a very pretty beer. While it’s labelled a red IPA, it pours the deepest gold with a copper gleam at its core. It’d fit comfortably into the very occasionally seen "amber IPA" category; or at just below six percent, I’d happily call it an amber ale with oomph.*
And while there is that punchiness in there, it’s definitely designed for drinkability: an upfront fruitiness rolls into smooth toffee and caramel notes, and there’s a nutty, earthy bitterness in the tail end to wipe away any sweetness and invite you back for more.

* Man, remember amber ales? Those beauties are what got me into good beer in the first place; now, a decade later, they’re almost nowhere to be seen. A reminder of the cruel passage of time. Memento mori, huh?** ** I’m conscious this is the second time in a month that I’ve referenced death in a beer write-up. I swear I’m OK, everyone. Just a bit of black humour. Though I did also have a beer last night that tasted like strawberry lollies, so maybe that particular flavour creates some kind of strange, morbid association for me. I’ll report back if it happens again.
