Starting life as a one off release at the beginning of 2017, by the time the Sauce brewery opened towards the end of the year the Saucy Red had made its way into the core range. It's is an American style red ale that comes in packaging likely to reignite debate about sexism in marketing, but inside the tin chooses to strut its stuff by way of three US hop varieties: Calypso, Simcoe and Amarillo. Yet it’s not just hops, hops, hops. If someone told you he’d added Redback, Shepherd’s Delight and Toffee you may think they'd reached for the wrong bags of ingredients but those are, in fact, all varieties of malt and the purpose of them is to add the red colour and a chewy malt sweetness. There's a touch of rye in there too, so expect a little spiciness atop this saucy number.
