Not to sound preachy but, for God’s sake, it’s 2024. We need to be getting more fruit into our diets. Luckily, Marrickville wizard collective Sauce Brewing Co have released a duo of popular summer styles with some funky fruit additions.
Starting with the sour (as I believe you always should), Blood Orange & Peach Sour pours an exotic peach colour with an extra coupla flecks of orange, hinting at the ingredients like no beer I’ve seen before. Aromas of white wine and peach are sure to trap a fruit fly or two, which means you should waste no time sipping. The profile features a delicate and dry balance that certainly doesn’t hit you with anything overly sweet or overly sour in a relaxing, approachable beer that makes for an ideal late summer release.
Hopheads in the mood for an ancient fruit injection might, however, be tempted by the Galaxy & Coconut Water XPA, which pours a romantic cloudy swirl of unfiltered heirloom apple juice crushed before your eyes. On the nose it is an unmistakable XPA, with a hop fragrance that pierces through like the buzz of a mozzie in your tent.
The hops come alive with a fertilised aggression on the tongue; even if you love Galaxy hops, you may never have tasted them like this. Coconut water was added during fermentation, resulting in more of a silky salty flow rather than impacting the taste. With an ABV of 4.8 percent, you could chug this beer as I believe it was brewed to be chugged: on the side of some on-the-bone chicken so spicy you’re a little scared.
