Another month brings another Beerland limited release, this time one brewed at Whitfords Brewing Co. Alte Schule, or Old School, is a kellerbier, a title that refers to the cool cellars (keller) which, at one stage, would have been where unfiltered lagers were fermented ready to be served directly from a wooden cask in a tavern or beer garden.
This hazy brown lager with ruby highlights delivers nutty and slightly toasted malts balanced by honeycomb sweetness. The Tettnanger hops provide a little spice towards the end of the palate as well as contributing to a dry finish. This, coupled with its low bitterness and moderate alcohol content, makes this kellerbier a very approachable autumn release.
