Near neighbours, well, a leisurely 30 minute drive betwixt, reunite for their sophomore album. While autumn 2019’s Eagle Rock Vol 1 was a lightly soured, salty, kviek-fermented affair, Vol 2 mainlines modern refreshment in a way that only India pale lagers seem to achieve.
Beginning with the cult-like revered pilsner style, the intent was to bring some less utilised hops – hello, Tettnang – as well as modern favourites Galaxy and Enigma, as well as some from the middle bit – Nelson Sauvin – into a modern lager: or India Pale Pilsner as they're terming it.
Or, as Eagle Bay’s head brewer Keegan Steinbacher puts it: “I dig that it has enough complexity to really delve into if you want, but it’s also just so damn drinkable that you can knock it back.”
So, if you’re looking for it, there’s soft floral lime, Meyer lemon, melon, berry and grassy notes dancing Keegan-style through CrossFit-lean bready pilsner malt, which allows the spritzy carbonation to run increasingly arid, amplifying perceived bitterness.
