It's funny how some things stick with you. I don't really know what TiVo is, yet as soon as I heard about Holgate's beer of the same name, Tropic Thunder came to mind. Which, much like the film, is a red herring as the beer has nothing to do with that kind of TiVo and everything to do with recreating an aperitivo.
It's a collab with Umberto Espresso Bar – an Italian joint in the Melbourne suburb of Thornbury – designed to mimic a spritz. Brewed with oranges and orange-esque German hop variety Mandarina Bavaria, it pours a hazy peach colour and melds a touch of sweetness with a drying, pithy, bitter orange character and a cleansing, refreshing finish.
The Holgate team reckon it's "the perfect way to enjoy 'la dolce vita' as day turns to night"; I can confirm it was equally suited to being first beer of the day on a scorching day's bush camping where comments from fellow campers included: "looooooong tail" and "would be great with olives and cured meats".
