Beerfarm's longstanding collab with Fervor returns in 2023 for a ninth time. It's testament to the incredibly diverse availability of native ingredients in Australia – and the important connection they have with the history of Aboriginal people – that this series continues to be unique in both style and in-depth storytelling.
This year’s release uses and celebrates the boab nut, sourced from Bindam Mie, an organisation that creates employment opportunities for young Indigenous workers who process and package the nuts in Broome, while educating and promoting the sustainable use of native Australian ingredients.
The beer is again wrapped in beautiful, peel-away packaging that tells the story of the boab nut, the beer, and the land it all comes from. Entirely engrossed before you’ve even taken a sip, Boab Nut Brown is classically malty with rich caramel tones and a filling mouthfeel, combining to become reminiscent of sticky butterscotch sauce – in the best kind of way. Boab nut comes through in the aroma against citrusy Eclipse hops, adding an earthy and minerally note. On the palate, there's a nuttiness and a touch of acidity, while the 5 percent ABV keeps things approachable.
This reviewer hopes the Native Series has a long future, with each reiteration impressing and offering valuable insight into the diversity of native Australian ingredients on our doorstep.
