Beerfarm’s annual wine hybrid release has taken a few forms over the few years: Shiravignon, Shirrazaweiss and now Through the Grapevine. The 2023 vintage hits very different however, featuring four grape varieties from no less than eight wineries in the creation of a unique blended spectacular.
Celebrating the diversity of the wine industry in Margaret River, Through The Grapevine is a hybrid ale that aims to showcase all that’s good about the famed grape-growing region: both producers and their collaborative nature, as well as the stunning fruit they grow.
The party is all about fruit with vibrant grape-derived character dominating. Building on top of a light, clean base beer, cabernet merlot, tempranillo, chenin blanc and chardonnay all feature, with red grapes responsible for the colour: a rich, ruby hue. On the nose, familiar grassy and earthy grape skin notes persist, with light berry and stewed fruit also featuring. To taste, it's all red fruits: raspberry, cranberry and plum most prominent alongside some tannin, goji berry and green leaf. Acid is strong but balanced against some residual sweetness and an uber tight, clean finish.
In 2023, Beerfarm have elevated their grape-infused hybrid ale to another level by bringing in eight grape-growing, wine-making collaborators to showcase the region's diversity and collaborative nature.
