It's officially summer sour season and Beerfarm have dropped a doozy for those who like theirs dripping with fruit, releasing a Watermelon Mojito Sour that the South West brewers allege features "enough watermelon to fill a pool". Despite the ambiguity of that claim, one thing is clear: watermelon is front and centre in this slammable summer sour.
Pouring effervescent with just a hint of pink, the aroma quickly alludes to the masses of watermelon present, with candied watermelon and hints of freshly juiced watermelon offered in spades while citrus zest, mint, lime juice and apple skins paly support. Acid is the driver here, with a ripe, gripping tartness carrying fruit flavour alongside a distinct lack of bitterness that ensures acidity is central and entirely refreshing.
While cocktail-inspired beers aren’t new, Beerfarm have done well here to pay homage to a summer cocktail favourite in the form of a lively, fruited sour that is sure to have sour fans hooked.
