When you're constantly immersed in the tranquillity that is the Australian bush, at some point it starts to infuse every element of your day-to-day existence. With the Woolshed Brewery situated in the heart of the Riverland, their natural surroundings encompass them. The Murray laps at their front door (not literally, thankfully, although it has come close), eucalyptus leaves fall on their porch, and many in the tightknit community are regulars at the bar. So, when it came time to design a new limited release, the recipe didn’t fall far from the tree.
Outback Amber features a rich base of South Australian character malts, from new producer AMSAT, upon which Australian Eclipse hops get to sing, while Adelaide-based yeast company Ferveo completes the picture.
Just like a late sunset on the Murray, Outback Amber takes the form of a deep orange, opening with a caramel and toffee sweetness, alongside candied orange peel, mandarin and tangerine. The malt stands up strong, forming a solid structure, working well with those orange characters and a touch of bitter grapefruit, while bitterness is reserved and balanced, complemented by a refreshing dryness that sees the sunset through to dusk.
