Reckless’ core range red IPA first came to life when the crew made a spur of the moment decision to turn a sessionable beer into a slightly chunkier one. Now, to celebrate the first birthday of their Bathurst brewery and taproom, they’ve gone and made their red IPA chunkier again.
As you pour it out of the can, the Double Red IPA is the exact colour of the rusty corrugated iron on the brewery roof (and also around the top of the label). Straight away, you know this beer’s gonna be a good time.
It brings all the goodness of its smaller sibling, and more. The Citra and Mosaic hops pair with the specialty malts to hit you with big bright fruits, red toffee apple, candied orange and mandarin peel. Then, as the dust settles, there’s an aftertaste of caramelised sugar, dark toast and resin. It’s boozy on the nose and boozy in the finish, with a well-balanced bitterness throughout.
Happy bloody birthday, Reckless BX.
