It’s no easy gig being a core range beer. The need to be interesting while having broad appeal is a tall order. Many beers get lost in the demands of the core range – and you could hardly blame them.
Some beers do, however, rise to the occasion and manage to be both dependable and remarkable. You get a sense from this addition to Revel's core range – Pacific Haze – that plenty of refining has gone in to making it the latter.
The beer pours a cloudy, yellow straw with a fluffy white head. Revel have employed a lineup of hops which surely ticks every box from here and across the Tasman: Galaxy, Eclipse, Nectaron and Wai-iti. The result is a beer with a blend of bright tropical notes in which orange, passionfruit and pineapple stand out against a lean, dry body. Only the slightest hint of bitterness is present and – like a dip in the ocean – acts to make this a supremely refreshing experience.
