As a Melburnian, it feels like WA gets to enjoy endless summers and doesn’t know the true depth of winter’s chill. But despite year-round warmth, Rocky Ridge certainly know their way around big dark beers, so it’s little wonder they’d be hot (or cold) favourites to appear in the 2024 Black Box by Carwyn Cellars.
For their entry, they’ve brewed Imperial Ken Oats, a dialled-up version of an earlier collaboration with Margaret River Roasting Co. The pastry stout is incredibly silky while bringing huge hits of a still-brewing espresso, light roast, dark chocolate and gentle swirls of caramel-meets-maple. Pair it with a coffee and you’re guaranteed a fantastic start or finish to the day and, when you're impressing beer drinkers and coffee snobs in one go, it's safe to say Rocky Ridge are well and truly ready to open in Melbourne.
