You wouldn’t expect something like IPA Day to pass without something hoppy being set free from the Rocky Ridge’s Jindong brewhouse. Indeed, you might be surprised if just one thing was set free from there. And they've not let anyone down in 2024, releasing four hop-forward beers, including I Love Lamp, a particularly striking West Coast imperial IPA. Alongside it, two other movie one-liner-inspired beers hit fridges: The Juice Box Guy – a hazy IPA at 8.5 percent ABV – and Really, Really, Ridiculously Good Tasting – a "sexy" milkshake IPA. Add in the the return of Stairway To Resin, a fan favourite West Coast IPA, and anyone seeking a lupulin injection is well catered for.
As for I Love Lamp, this WCIIPA pours pale golden with just a smidgeon of haze. Thanks to a lengthy shopping list of hops, including Rakau and Amarillo, you'll be welcomed by, big ripe melon notes alongside sweet apricots and fig, all of which carry across the palate into a crisp, tight finish in which resinous bitterness persists. At 8.5 percent ABV, it's no slouch, although alcohol is as well-integrated as the beer is balanced.
For those seeking something other than hops, prior to IPA Day, Rocky Ridge also released Imperial Ken Oats, Stone Cold Killa – terpene IPA at 7 percent ABV, Charlie – a mango, raspberry, bubblegum, and vanilla pastry sour at 8 percent ABV), and Untitled Paint – a juicy IPA at 7.5 percent ABV.
