Winter in Melbourne is the perfect time to engage in a few passion projects. Do you want to dive into your family tree? Learn about knitting? Become a salami sensation? Then there’s no better time to do it than when the days are short and life’s a little quieter.
For the past couple of years, winter at Bodriggy has seen brewer Harrison lead a passion project of his own, whereby he brews a pilsner at the start of winter and allows it to condition in tank for weeks and weeks. In 2023, there was Coupla Days, and for 2024, it returns as Rubber Arm.
The beer was inspired by some of his favourites from Germany, so it keeps things largely traditional, although it features American hop Centennial alongside Spalt, which is considered one of the world’s oldest varieties. Pouring stunningly clear and with a golden hue, Rubber Arm brings a background of bread and dry biscuits alongside floral and spiced characters. With so much time in the tank, those flavours are wonderfully subtle enough for you to bend that rubber arm again and again.
