Bad Shepherd has a long history of turning beer into dessert territory, whether that’s through a long list of cake-like beers or the likes of their runaway success, Peanut Butter Porter. So it makes sense that if you work for the Melbourne brewers, you might have a bit of a sweet tooth, which is certainly the case for their sales team member, Jarryd.
As well as loving beer, Jarryd’s a big fan of lemon meringue pie, so naturally, when it came time to brew his Brew Crew release—number 24 for those playing at home—he brought his two favourites together. While there’s certainly a sweetness to the beer, the first thing you’ll likely notice is just how zesty the sour is, bringing a tang that’s like licking a Microplane after you’ve shaved bits of lemon skin into your marinade (maybe don’t try this at home?). That citrus carries through to a lolly-like lemon and creamy vanilla combination, while there’s a gentle toasted pie crust element to ensure you’re getting the full pie experience.
