Heaps Normal might be focused on providing alcohol-free beer to drinkers, but that doesn’t mean they’re eager to get caught up in too many corners of wellness culture. Third IPA is a beer that pokes fun at spiritual guides that tend to look like the only place they’re eager to transport people to is the bottom of a pyramid scheme. The beer’s launch has included a mass ice-bath on Bondi Beach and its own website and chief wellness officer and, despite the name, it's number four in the brewing company’s lineup following Quiet XPA, Another Lager and Half Day Hazy.
Pouring crystal clear with a golden orange hue, there’s a very soft touch of biscuit, but largely, like any classic West Coast, it’s largely about pine, a little about citrus and plenty about bitterness on the finish. Sure, they might have cut out any alcohol, but given the lasting touch of resin, if you miss West Coasts of old, Third IPA might open a gateway back to the past without the risk of slowing down you morning.
