To celebrate their eighth birthday, Cornella Brewery have named their anniversary ale after Quentin Tarantino’s eighth film, The Hateful Eight. And, like the movie, Cornella’s liquid saga brings together eight unique characters from different backgrounds.
Galaxy, Motueka, Nectaron, Citra, Simcoe, Mosaic, Luminosa and Amarillo hops make up the cast for Hazeful 8, bringing tropical and citrus flavours to the hazy, pale gold IIPA. Cornella certainly didn't spare on the volume of hops either; it's their birthday after all, so they're entitled to a little self indulgence, which translates to a 20 grams per litre dry-hop. The mouthfeel is suitably pillowy and delicate with a hint of juiciness and light bitterness.
At 8 percent ABV, it's something of a sipper rather than a crusher and, unlike the film, known for its verbosity, lengthy runtime and slow pace, Cornella’s hazy episode – even if you enjoy the entire 440ml can on your own – doesn't overstay its welcome (Editor: agreed, the weakest of his films next to Once Upon A Time In Hollywood. Hopefully it's a blip rather than decline. Founder: nah, the Kill Bills are utter garbage.).
The end result is as harmonious as an Ennio Morricone score. It's a beer to kick off your shoes, put your feet up and relax with, that's for sure.
