Just as spring promises to bring some sunnier days to Melbourne, the passage of time promises new beers will be making their way out of Tallboy & Moose’s Preston home.
Among them is Blackberry Warpaint, brewed in collaboration with Whitehart in Melbourne’s CBD. It’s something of an unusual take on a kettle sour as it’s had lactose added to the boil along with a hefty 100 kilograms of blackberries. It makes for a drink you could be forgiven for assuming is a smoothie, both when you pour it and as you raise the glass to your mouth. With there’s plenty of sourness in the beer, the lactose adds a decent level of sweetness too while the mountain of blackberries make themselves known in the flavour department.
They've also tapped Builder’s Brew, a twist on the brewery’s regularly brewed Extra Special Bitter. The addition of tea to the whirlpool adds further floral notes and seems to up the bitterness in a beer that already had plenty of tea and marmalade like characters.
