Let me tell you how this beer didn’t meet my expectation.
The colour ‘peach’ is a pinkish-orange blush colour and between the orange on the label and the pink of Princess Peach of Mario fame, that’s the colour I was expecting to pour out of this can. Instead, the liquid came out the colour of yellow peach flesh. The actual colour of the fruit that’s in the beer - can you believe it?
That was the only way my expectation wasn’t met in this beer (and of course, that too could have been predicted if I’d used my noggin). Wayward are pushing this fruit sour as having an ice cream sundae vibe, and they’ve achieved this by stuffing it full of Aussie peaches and Madagascar Bourbon vanilla (the term ‘Bourbon’ here refers to the islands and not the whiskey, I’m afraid).
Vanilla ice cream fills the nose before giving way to the sweet flavour and gentle sour of the peaches. If you don’t like ice cream, turn your mind instead to sour peach gummies and creaming soda. Either way, it’s a soft tartness washed down with sweet creaminess and nostalgia. Ten out of ten for doing what it says on the box.
