Did you know there was a National Donut Competition? I sure didn’t, although I suppose it’s not hugely surprising.
This year, DoughHeads from Newcastle won first place in the jam donut category (as well as a couple of other categories). So, when Modus found out Australia’s best jam donut was made just down the road from their production brewery, they jumped at the chance to throw it into a beer. Again, not too surprising that such a thing would happen in this day and age.
The resulting collab is Pump Up The Jam: a jam donut pastry sour. It gives off an aroma of raspberry Fanta with just a whiff of gentle malt character… almost a slight doughiness. From the first bite – uh, I mean sip – jammy raspberry fills your mouth. There’s a slight sourness pulling from the other side, but the sweetness wins this tug-o-war.
Yeah, that’s right. It tastes like a jam donut. Did you seriously expect to be surprised by something else?
