Such has been the impact of the pandemic on our sense of time – I've lost my utterly pointless superpower to remember how old people's kids are within a month or two even if I've not seen them in years, for example – it might come as a surprise to many that it's been more than 40 months since Modus last released Future Factory. Back in February 2019, it arrived as a ten percent IIIPA; here, number IV lands at a relatively tame 8 percent ABV and pitched as a hazy double IPA.
Given the brewery was one of those that pioneered densely hazy IPAs, this is much more of the mildly-hazy-rather-than-cloudy ilk favoured by many today, and actually presents texturally more like a modern West Coast too: leaner than many hazies, but without the potent bitterness of a WCIPA of yore. Sweetly candied citrus and bubblegum are order of the day, with a background buzz of spicy, gently warming booze in support.
