A good part of what’s always made GABS fun is the organised chaos. Chaotic beers, bands walking through the crowd, the acrobatics. Modus have embraced that chaos with an apocalyptic trio of beers, ready to be enjoyed after cruising the country’s in Max’s V8, or on Furiosa’s War Rig.
The GABS beer itself is Chrome Fury, a mango and coconut pastry sour, and while you might not see either as a particularly furious fruit*, if you’re not spending summer eating mangoes with the intensity of a person possessed, then are you living? The mango’s combination with lactose and the beer’s sweet and sour side comes across like mango sorbet with coconut sprinkled on top.
Joining that GABS release is the kind of beer that should excite any Modus fan: a red IPA in the spirit of their Former Tenant. Rip & Tear features Cascade, Columbus, Ekuanot, Galaxy and Mosaic hops, set free to blaze a trail of tropical fruit, pine and candied orange across your palate as the malts mix toast and berries which, admittedly, is a little less like an apocalypse and a lot more like a delicious breakfast.
Finally, Wastelander is a milkshake IPA that looks out onto a world of hops and lactose and brings them together as one. Here, Citra, Hop Haze and Mosaic do the heavy lifting, unleashing a huge hit of citrus atop lush, creamy base.

*I now simply must spend the rest of the day thinking up what the most furious fruits are. Pineapple, maybe?
