Imagine in your mind a posh country club. Now stop imagining it because that’s not what Young Henrys wants you to picture as you sip Swing Juice Country Club XPA. It's their collaboration with Birds of Condor, a golf apparel brand from Byron Bay. Some punks get into golf eventually and now there's a beer for them too.
Pouring an appropriately pale gold that's not too many shades away from old school bitter lemonade, Swing Juice bursts with the sort of aromas that make me miss Sydney’s Inner West, courtesy of dry-hopoing with varieties from America and Australia.
Bitter orange peel and earthy pine scents alight on the tongue like a drop shot from off the green before balanced tropical notes arrive to sweeten, soothe and settle. Although the very fleeting final notes are quite delicate, the there's enough packed in to make it hard to believe it’s only 4 percent ABV.
It's a beer designed for the sesh in country clubs when post-game schooners get a little competitive, but with can art and corresponding apparel designs by Sindy Sinn that are so good it might convince a few normal Millennials to get into golf too.
