When Will asked me if I would be interested in writing this beer up, he noted that he did so because I "strike him as a Dune Rats fan’" There I was, reading an email in my limited-edition Dune Rats Volleys wondering how it was so obvious. Dunies were going to send me beer when they’ve already given me so much?
First produced in 2017, Sydney’s Young Henrys and Brisbane’s Dune Rats have teamed up again to serve a Dunies Lager, available online and at all Dune Rats tour venues, touted as "Australia’s Coldest Beer". At 1.1 standards and 4.20 percent ABV, this lager comes in a cartoonish 330ml can and pours a yellow that's just a little lighter than the can itself. It passes the sniff test with Mosaic, Citra, El Dorado and Azacca hops all popping up to say: "Yeeeeeeeeeeew!"
The hops provide a light citrusy, grapefruit flavour that lingers on the palate without being overpowering. Intensely slammable, like the Dunies themself; even if it’s not your cup of tea, it’s inoffensive enough that you’re still gonna get into it come party time. If my brother bought me a six-pack of this I might have a hard time sharing it.
PS - NOTICE ME, DUNIES!!!
