A lot of us like a good coffee, but when you’re a brewer showing up to work at 5am, you appreciate it more than most.
Sunday Road Brewing and White Horse Coffee are just around the corner from each other, and have been partnering on beers since the brewery’s early days in 2019. While they have done the dark beer and coffee combo that’s more common, it’s their Coffee Lager that’s kept giving a delightful double-buzz to their customers (and bleary-eyed brewer) and scored a gold medal at the 2022 AIBAs.
After featuring single origin beans in previous iterations, the SR crew have landed on a hefty dose of White Horse Coffee’s house blend, White Knight, as their go-to coffee addition – and it shows. That delightful smell of freshly ground coffee beans greets you like you’ve just entered a cafe, and from the first sip, the espresso blend brings a punchier coffee hit than the more delicate past versions. But it’s still all held in balance with the caramel biscuit sweetness of the malt and the streamline lager body.
With a new can design and a new coffee addition in the same classic Vienna lager base, it’s a treat from beginning to end: from when you first see the copper-red hue and wildly fluffy head, to when you’re playing with the malt stickiness by touching your tongue to the roof of your mouth over and over again.
