"Collaborate with some local mates to celebrate the end of harvest."
That’s pretty much the core of Shirazzaweiss. Yet, in setting out to do just that, little did the Beerfarm crew and their mates at LS Wine Merchants know their collab would become one of Australia’s most celebrated beers, taking a podium spot in The Crafty Pint's Best New Beers Of 2018 – So Far list and impressing beer lovers across Australia.
In creating the beer, carefully selected parcels of minimal intervention, single estate Margaret River shiraz grapes are added to a kettle soured Berliner weisse base. As with any annual release, Shirazzaweiss is governed by that year’s harvest, however a general tasting guide for the beer would include an aroma of grape must leading into a sharply acidic, lurid pink beer. Some fruit sweetness is apparent beneath lemon characters before the grape skin and stem add a dry, tannic depth through the finish.
In 2018, Silly Pear, an artist that visitors to the brewery will be familiar with, provided the can design.
