As is the way in the Cheeky Monkey camp, new (and adventurous) beers aplenty are order of the day, making it a challenge to keep up – even for seasoned pros like the Crafty WA team! With summer 2021 arriving, the creative South West brewers dropped two "fresh is best" releases for thirsty punters.
Oat Cream IPA, as the name suggests, is an oat heavy IPA loaded with 25g per litre of American hops. A textbook creamy mouthfeel and exceptionally long finish pair well with a juicy and slightly resinous hop character. Its 7.8 percent ABV is nothing to baulk at, but is well hidden among fresh and fruity hop notes.
Mango Passionfruit and Cinnamon Portuguese Custard Tart Pastry Sour is not only a mouth full to say, but truly a mouthful to consume with a thick (or, if you prefer, "thicc" ) mouthfeel and dense, mango pulp vibes. This latest fruited sour from Cheeky Monkey dangerously pushes the boundaries of even being a beer, being so heavily dosed with fruit that it looks, tastes, smells and quenches thirst like a fresh glass of tropical fruit purée.
As is becoming commonplace for one of the state's most consistent brewers, Cheeky Monkey have offered up another couple of well-executed beers that might not please the purists, but will certainly please the taste buds.
