Cheeky Monkey have well and truly owned the pastry sour realm in WA. In 2022, at least half-a-dozen left their Vasse brewery and they're back for 2023: as long as there’s fruit and pastries, it looks like there will be Cheeky Monkey pastry sours.
With a density more akin to a thickshake and immediate scents of sweet, mango nectar permeating the air, Mango and Coconut Pastry Sour has nothing to hide. The coconut is light, although a slick, creamy mouthfeel is akin to coconut cream while that same mouthfeel carries ripe, sweet-sour mango. In combination, the texture and flavour profile is somewhat reminiscent of Yakult or a creamy, fruited yoghurt.
This fruity, pastry-inspired number is densely-flavoured yet particularly refreshing when served well-chilled. Mango is the star while, personally, I'd add a dash more coconut.
