For Pikes' spring 2023 limited release, the Clare Valley brewers decided to head back into clear beer territory, pumping out a classic West Coast IPA. It's one which hits all the right notes too, arguably not a surprise given they plumped for the tried-and-true hop combo of Citra, Amarillo, and Cascade.
And classic it is, from the way it looks in your glass – a lovely burnt orange colour – to the pine and resin on the nose, supported by a touch of orange citrus. There's a crystal malt sweetness chiming in to lift the resin and pine, while twisting the citrus into a dollop of marmalade. The bitterness is noticeable but not over the top, helping proceedings finish nice and dry. Just as they should.
