The team at Pikes continue to keep things interesting with their summer 2023/24 limited release, Strawberries & Cream Sour. An ode to the classic lolly, this beer was first kettle-soured before fresh strawberries were added post ferment. Add in a touch of lactose et voilà, you have the makings of a strawberry and cream lolly in beer form.
Similar to the lolly, this pours with a soft pinkish hue. Acidity is present on the nose, alongside the strawberries and a little creaminess. The fruit ramps up its presence on the first sip, presenting with a little juiciness, and alongside wheat and a little milky cream.
The beer isn’t overly sweet or overly sour but instead delivers a good balance of both, with the lactose adding depth and a little silkiness. Just watch out for the ABV...
