Arguably, hazy IPAs are craft beer’s biggest Pandora’s box; an approach to brewing that once opened, changed how we drank and helped certain hop varieties explode into crafty consciousness. For their first limited release of 2024, Melbourne’s Urban Alley have unleashed their own but rather than containing everything awful in the world, their Pandora’s Box has Superdelic, Nectaron, El Dorado (in Incognito from) and Belma CGX; a US variety from Crosby Hops with the CGX product containing more potency than T-90.
When cracked open and let fly into the world (okay that's the last mythological metaphor, I promise), you'll find it's heavy all things berry, nectarine, peach and grape. Largely speaking, the hazy IPA is all about being a soft and smooth beast but there is a slight bitter bite to be found too lurking beneath too, much a float down the River Styx.*
The beer is officially launching at Urban Alley Dockland's on February 14, with details here.
