There’s no doubt 2019 has been a pivotal year for Moon Dog, with the opening of Moon Dog World changing the game for what a brewery venue can be – not to mention the places suited for placing a lagoon. Once the actual brewhouse is firing away in the coming weeks, they'll also be able to aim for a capacity few other independent breweries can. But, to quote a Frenchman, the more some things change, the more they stay the same. Thus, here's the sort of Moon Dog the brewery's fans have long known delivering a big, dark Christmas beer: It’s The Most Wonderful Time Of The Beer.
It's a beer brewed with purpose too, of course: a sticky date quad designed to share alongside Christmas dessert. ITMWTOTB (as it’s known on TikTok) is unmistakably a big Belgian, where rich malt flavours mix with dark fruits and a spiced, peppery yeast note. Upon that base lie flavours of stewed dates, caramel, ripe banana and clove-covered oranges in a beer that’s unsurprisingly rich. Indeed, it could just as easily be poured over a Christmas pud as sipped alongside one.
