When you hear “blackberry” in a brewing context, there’s every chance your next thought is sour but for Temple Brewing, that isn’t the case. Well, it’s not the case now anyway, with Factory Hiccup originally conceived as a blackberry sour. Long story short, the right berries might have ended up in the wrong tank and that left Temple with blackberry porter.
Fortunately, the mishap has ended up being a particularly tasty one and not the kind of beer you often see. On the one hand, Factory Hiccup is very much a classic porter that’s chocolatey and roasted and has a smooth but dry finish. The blackberry flavour meanwhile, comes across like homemade jam thanks to its combination of toasted and dark chocolate akin to a cake with thick layers of jam throughout.
