Somewhere in the midst of juggle of launching their gastrobrewery while building volume in one of WA’s largest production breweries, Blasta have found time to experiment with New Zealand’s hop of the moment: Superdelic. Fans will note, however, that they’ve approached this release with a restrained enthusiasm, opting for an approachable hazy that should find plenty of favour in the new digs rather than anything more outsized.
The proprietary hop’s mango leads the way with candy hints, while the initial juiciness resolves into a lean profile that runs economically short, and a hint of bitterness adds a phantom limb to the backend. It's not a single hop release, despite the name, with Citra in support to add a little depth and red berry appearing as the beer warms.
That said, given the scope and intention of Blasta's new multifaceted home, this Superdelic Blasta is very much a beer designed for socialising over chin-stroking.
