The text on the back of this can raises the question of which you’d rather visit for a holiday: Jervis Bay or Coffs Harbour. But asking me that is like one of those videos of a dog standing between its two owners, not knowing which one to run to and freaking out with excitement instead. I’ve had a big year and I’m dying for a holiday and I’d happily take two weeks in a studio apartment beside a creek, let alone a trip to a gorgeous stretch of NSW coast.
But I believe the can is really saying: "Why not both?", given it contains a collab beer between Jervis Bay Brewing and King Tide Brewing.
Harbour & Bay is awash with smooth tropicals. No one fruit flavour stands out, and it doesn’t need to; it’s tropical in the way a Hawaiian Punch Sunny Boy (RIP) was tropical. The brewers have also nailed the "soft and smooth" nature that makes for a great hazy: the fruitiness transitions into a gentle finish, without any harshness or bitterness to slow you down. It’s like dancing through a tropical fruit orchard (just humour me, OK?) then frolicking through a field of wheat.
It almost makes me forget that I’m taking a trip to neither Jervis Bay nor Coffs Harbour.
Almost.
