Boatrocker founder Matt Houghton's passion for beer and brewing was sparked by trips to Northern Europe, sampling the pilsners of Germany and the diversity of Belgium's offerings along the way. Hoppen Poppe takes inspiration from the latter – specifically Houblon Chouffe – to take the shape of a strong blonde ale given a hefty dosing of American Amarillo hops. They combine with the Belgian yeast to create floral, citrus blossom aromas, the decoration atop a full-bodied beer in which honey and sweetly-spiced buns meet herbal tablets. Soft of texture and a little peppery to finish, it's an overseas trip for your taste buds.
Mojo has been around a few times before although, given the challenges of 2023, we suspect there will be plenty out there keen to get their mojo back. Vibrantly crimson with a soft pink head, it looks like cherry soda and maintains a lolly water vibe throughout as it mimics cherry cola. The cola-esque caramel centres everything, keeping the cherries sweet and candy like, and swept up by a refreshing tang.
Also back for more is Double Happiness, the souped-up sibling of Boatrocker fan favourite Miss Pinky. A hazy soft pink in the glass, it's reminiscent of a whipped raspberry summer dessert, with a sweet, berry acidity lightening the load of the 6.8 percent booze content.
