La Niña be damned, Burnley Brewing have two new releases ready for a long hot summer. First up is a collaboration with the Dingo Ate My Taco – a Melbourne food truck with a cult following for their delicious birria tacos. Dingo X Burnley is a Mexican lager designed to wash down those hefty Tex-Mex treats, which means you’ll find it serves a light body with enough corn in the grain bill to ensure it somewhat resembles eating corn chips – if those corn chips were somehow seasoned with the floral spice brought by classic European hops.
Also recently out from Burnley is a collaboration with both Union Wine Store and Seddon Wine Store. Cold IPA is hopped with Chinook, Cascade, Centennial, Mosaic, Amarillo and Magnum, with Burnley’s head brewer Michael Stanzel wanting his take on the novel style to be as much a throwback to classic West Coasts as a point of exploration. It means the beer is at once clean and very pungent, with a crispness and lightness on the palate that sits close to the lager above, joined by punchy pine, an earthiness and grapefruit rind and a bold enough bitterness to make it worlds removed from a sessionable lager.
