Nectar of the Old Gods has been described by Feral’s Innovation Brewer Oscar David as if their "Shooter's and Biggie had a baby" and the oat cream IPA has one eye looking over its shoulder and the other very much in the present. For a brewery built upon hop aggression, Feral's second decade appears focussed on hoppy articulation, bringing out the best from the lupulin available with lower IBUs compared with their early legendary beer gods.
Nectar's creamy nose reflects a generous oat addition, plus a sprinkle of lactose, making for a luscious, slightly sweet ride, yet one which is nimbler than its vibrant, orange opacity suggests. The American hop gods of Citra and Simcoe offer a very cohesive brekky juice meld; at once mango, then mandarin, then peach and a hint of pine. Admittedly the latter is not ideal in your normal morning fruit intake, but it works well here and is a nice throwback to earlier IPAs so surely its appearance here should appease the old beer gods.
Nectar Of The Old Gods is being released exclusively at Perth's Froth Town before a wider release the following week.
