Dark matter surrounds us. There’s a lot of deep science about light, electromagnetic radiation and the like, and no agreement on what exactly it is or how we can even find out. Thankfully, there’s also coffee!
And Feral’s returning dessert porter featuring Perth coffee roaster Laika’s new carbonic macerated bean from Veracruz, Mexico, as well as Dutch cocoa, Madagascan vanilla pods and lactose, puts it to work. But this isn’t the pastry party some may assume, instead Dark Matter 2021 is button down sensible in a field awash with udder confection, even though it drips with go juice.
Here, Dark Matter delivers a robust porter with a fresh, roast coffee nose, teased with vanilla, which continues in the glass as espresso, liquorice hints and vanilla cream whip flavour – as opposed to mouthfeel – with a palate length that arcs classically dry, and roasty. It all comes wrapped by Dipesh "Peche" Prasad’s custom logo design, equally evoking the dark San Franciscan icons of George Lucas’ Empire and metal anti-heroes Metallica.
