Bridge Road Brewers’ The Creek is a longstanding annual release from the High Country brewers that combine a bit of Belgium and their backyard. On the Belgian front, there’s the fact the beer’s based heavily on Krieks; the style of lambic made with cherries. But locally speaking, the Beechworth brewers couldn't have really stayed much closer to home, having headed just outside town late in 2022 to an orchard in Stanley for some whole cherries to add to their golden sour.
Those cherries then sat in oak for a further 12 months to turn into the brilliantly red beer its now become. Straight up, there's a complex sourness that coats the tounge while the cherry aromas and flavour are incredibly intense, providing wave after wave of rich fruit and a light touch of almond. In tribute to the beer's cross-contintental story, I matched my bottle with friends and charcoal chicken and it's hard to think of a better matching you could find, even if you made it to the banks of the Senne.
