Although we're adding Brick Lane's Bommie XPA to the site as spring 2024 approaches, the beer has actually been out since the middle of autumn. Then, it made its way into the market as a new year-round offering from the Dandenong-based brewers. While it did so pretty quietly, it wasn't long before it was helping Brick Lane make some noise: the beer picked up a gold medal at the Australian International Beer Awards in May, part of a catalogue of medals that saw them win the Champion Large Australian Brewery title – one of four they collected on the night.
Given it takes inspiration for its name and can design from the world of surfing – and given we all know what to expect from an XPA these days – you'll likely have a fair idea what's in store, especially from a brewery known for quality and consistency. And Bommie doesn't disappoint: pale gold and lightly hazy in appearance; citrus-led but with a breadth of tropical fruit vibes in support; soft of texture but with enough bitterness and crisp carbonation to welcome a second or third can. Job done.

If you're reading this in time, we've got a few cases of Bommie to give away to members of our beer club, The Crafty Cabal. Details here.
