2022 was Negroni Sbagliato’s year, what will be the cocktail of 2023? For Pirate Life Brewing, who are no strangers to creating beery spins on cocktails, they’ve entered the new year with a collaborative sour ale, Sidecar. To turn the drink of brandy, orange liqueur and lemon juice into a beer, the brewery partnered with St Agnes Distillery with the Renmark outfit’s Bartender’s Cut blend of brandy the star of the sour.
It’s certainly particularly sour too, with the added lemon juice packing plenty of pucker, while the malt bill ensures there’s a biscuity sweet side to balance that tartness. That lemon also adds a touch of stewed citrus, while the boozy brandy soon appears as that sourness starts to fade.
