Juice Juice Revolution is Mash’s first foray into the burgeoning proprietary terpene scene, one with secrets so closely guarded they aren’t disclosing what is actually being used. And when the can label suggests "tropical", "citrus" and "pine" the contents could well be a hazy tautology plucked from a sea of tropi-citrus peers. Except that it doesn’t – this is a revolution after all.
For starters, it’s worth remembering that this is closer to a mid-strength beer than one would assume on blind tasting, or at least the scant information provided. Everything seems amplified, familiar, yet through the looking glass.
Pine needles appear as if starburst, carrying supporting notes of green Tabasco without the heat and fleeting sappy herbal element. If that seems a curious mix then orange rind, OJ and underripe pineapple are likely to better meet expectations, but even these have a "can’t put my finger on it" quality.
Moderate juiciness is soon cleaned up with a surprising bitter finish which adds structure, and though a touch quirky, when taken as a whole, Juice Juice Revolution overdelivers at just over 4 percent ABV. It’s a challenging space for most lower ABV beers but this suggests that the revolution will be terpened.
