When the South West Craft Beer Bogans joined forces with Mash Brewing to create a new beer, it was quite the endeavour. Firstly, there was a poll run on their Facebook page to decide the style, then a competition to select the name of the beer before a bunch of bogans headed north to the Swan Valley. Fifteen of them were shown around the brewery and even got to select the hops to be used in the final product. We're assured no bogans were harmed in the making of this beer but many did leave the brewery feeling very merry.
The Epic Hazy Bogan NEIPA pours like a fresh breakfast juice with mango, pine and citrus aromas coming from the glass. A silky smooth mouthfeel leads into an assortment of tropical juice flavours thanks to the Mosaic, Citra and Eureka hops that deliver a very moreish bitterness that beckons you to take another sip.
Also new from Mash is the latest in their "Cheesecake Series", Banoffee Pie Cheesecake IPA. Brewed for GABS, it's loaded with cacao nibs, lactose, banana, candy syrup and vanilla to try to create a liquid version of the cake. Hefeweizen yeast was used to accentuate the banana esters and add a little nutmeg spice to boot.
There's no mistaking the banoffee flavours with sweet toffee and subtle banana hitting the palate straight away, while vanilla and lactose add a creaminess without making it overly sweet. Best enjoyed with a side of whipped cream.
